MINUTES - D.R.Y.L. Meeting hosted by Wissinoming YC

March 3, 2009

 

OPENING: Meeting called to order @ 8:05pm. President Paul Jusino introduced past Commodore Walt Shultz who thanked everyone for coming. He also mentioned that Wissinoming had a new cook and the restaurant was open on Friday and Saturday.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: All present except Treasurer and Fleet Surgeon.

ROLL CALL OF COMMITTEE HEADS/ORGANIZATIONS: All present except Cruise, Pageant, Regatta and Safe Boating.

ROLL CALL OF CLUBS: 28 clubs present

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes were approved as published.

 

OFFICERS & COMMITTEE REPORTS

President: Juice thanked everyone for coming. He also thanked all those who attended the banquet and mentioned the winners of the Person of the Year and Club of the Year awards. This year there were two special honorees: George Whittlinger and Frank McAfee who were honored for their years of service to the boating community and the DRYL. Juice was unable to attend Penn’s Landing meeting but will make the next one. Boating Safety Day will be May 24th at Penn’s Landing. Juice received a letter of thanks from Danica Poole of Polar Plunge for Special Olympics. Hopefully, this will become an annual event.

 

1st Vice President: John Maloney – no report.

2nd Vice President: Butch Gricco – asked about the need to be sworn in this year. Not necessary.

He also asked why no picnic presentation at the banquet. Juice mentioned it was an oversight and apologized.

3rd Vice President: Steve Zielinski – no report.

Secretary: Rick Patton – no report.

Audit & Budget: Bill Branchide – Still trying to get audit ready for presentation in April.

Banquet: Mary Jusino – 22 clubs and 183 people attended the banquet this year. Total dollars collected was $7,918 less expenses of $7,572.82 leaves a net profit of $345.18. Next year’s banquet is February 27, 2010 at Cannstatters. Mary thanked all the clubs who donated door prizes.

Cruise: Bob Grace – no report.

Donations – no requests.

Fleet Surgeon: Harry Borgersen – Doc has the flu.

NJ Legislation: John Honer – Bill passed January 15, 2009 clarifying the mandatory boat safety course must be taken by June 1, 2009. Everyone must have a boating safety certificate to boat in NJ.

Pageant: Toni Nespola – first pageant meeting at Wissinoming on May 17, 2009.


Picnic: Marie Houseworth – Marie is very happy to be Chairperson of the Picnic Committee. First committee meeting is Tuesday, March 10th at West End YC. She will have more information next month. Picnic will be September 12th at West End YC in Essington, PA

Public Affairs: Bill Garwood – discussed an article concerning Delaware River Trails project and its progress and direction. Bill also mentioned an article about NFL players that died in a small boating accident in the Gulf of Mexico this past week.

Regatta: Fred Saunders – no report.

Safe Boating: Frank Gilbert – no report.

Shoreline Planning: Joe Campbell – no report.

Webmaster: Paul Jusino – no report.

Yearbook: Denise Leo – thanked the clubs who sent in their ads. Still looking for ads to be renewed. In order to get into the yearbook, ad must be received by March 15th and payment must be received by March 20th or ad will not be run. We are still chasing payments from last year. Denise mentioned that West End was being dredged.

Boater Voter: Joe Campbell – no report.

CBYCA: Bob Williams – no report.

National Boating Federation (NBF): Bob Williams – no report.

Pennsylvania Boating Association - SE (PBA): Bill Garwood – Meeting will be at Pennsylvania YC on March 18th. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

·         Neshaminy Harbor/Bristol will hold January 2010 meeting.

·         May 30th will be DRYL night at Trenton Thunder Ball club

NEW BUSINESS

·         Recording Secretary - $42 for stamps

FINANCIAL REPORTS

Checkbook opening balance for January was $12,764.00. Mike Kovacs reported income of $8,511.13 while Joe Campbell reported disbursements of $6,965.13 resulting in a checkbook closing balance of $14,310.00. A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay the bills.

GOOD AND WELFARE

·         Pennsylvania YC is having a St Patty’s Day party

·         Ft. Washington boat show in Oaks. DRYL can get in free by showing membership card

·         FSA is having a casino night

·         Ran-Del Opening Day is May 3rd at FSA

·         Yapewi Opening Day is May 23rd at noon

·         Yyapewi is having a Monte Carlo night on March 21st at 8pm

·         Neshaminy Harbor Opening Day is May 30th – ceremony at 5pm

·         West End Opening Day is May 16th – 1-6pm

·         Suggestion of parade float in Thanksgiving parade or neighborhood parade to promote DRYL

·         Bordentown YC is having a comedy night this Saturday – adults only $25

·         Pennsylvania YC Opening Day is June 6th – ceremony at 1pm

·         Pennsylvania YC member, Ted Vigilante, is seeking votes for judgeship.

·         Boat US “fresh water” towing package is available for $53 which includes membership

·         Joe Campbell mentioned the two honorees from the banquet especially Frank McAfee who is always in attendance at the DRYL meetings. Frank thanked the DRYL for taking these events to their current levels

·         50/50 won by Wissinoming YC member - $59

CLOSING: A motion was made, seconded and approved to adjourn the meeting at 9:10pm
